Manny Fest Destiny

Can Red Sox fans handle sucess? After that 13-1 victory, sign me up for this course.

But certainly the tide has turned. My mother is cheering for the Rockies. Even I felt a twinge of regret for the Indians (I attribute it to their downing the Yankees though) . Are Red Sox Nation fans of the team or fans of the underdog? Was the grammar in that last sentence correct? Whatever, bring on game 2!!!

For the purposes of this Series, I agree with your mother. Red Sox Nation can't legitimately think of their team as an underdog; that comparison only works if they were to play the Yankees or Mets (even though they had a better record than either).

I feel a little sorry for the Rockies, entering the league at the same time as the Marlins but without two bought World Series (followed by fire sales) to show for it. And how does their entire team salary compare to Dice-K's deal? The 7-0 playoff run suggests that maybe it's their time. Starting with game 3, of course.

It's a little bit like 2004, when the Red Sox were in the opposite position. My St. Louis connection suggested I root for the Cardinals, but I didn't mind getting swept when the Red Sox were making (and breaking) history.

Finally, consider the possibility that, next season, the Red Sox could look more like a stable of mercenaries than the seemingly depleted Yankees.

A lot of fans were concerned about the Dice K deal and I for one am sure he wasn't worth it. I aquired him early in our fantasy draft (the equivalent of $$$) and immediately wished I'd gone another way. I also got Beckett a round or two later. A much better deal I have to say!

    But the moral question is:
When your payroll, etc. starts looking like your enemy what do you, as a fan, do? Do you stop cheering for your team?

I mean, people have spent their lives losing. I can see how 2004 worked but I'm much more concerned about a possible win here there will mess with the psyches of thousands!

And hell, Guiliani coming out on the side of the Sox? We didn't ask for that! What is the world coming to?
