Sushi? or bait?

Why is sushi on a conveyor belt such a cool concept?

Really. I'm in love. Sushi Hana just opened up within walking distance from my house and I could no be happier! Some things I love about the place.

- When you get there and walk in they always shout greetings to you. Everyone. The chefs in the center and the girls bringing the tea are so infectious that everyone in the place joins in. Of course I always want to yell "NORM" but I refrain...

- Coat hooks on the walls. In abundance. I love them. Maybe I won't care in the summer but now it's lovely.

- The lovely coloured plates. Green = $1 Blue $1.5 Yellow $2 Orange $2.5 Specials are multi-coloured and only $3. You can take all you want and it never adds up to what you'd pay elsewhere.

- Small portions. I don't have to decide on one or two tastes but can sample them all. And I don't look stupid on a date trying to fit a whole piece into my mouth gracefully. They are nice and bite-sized.

- No menu. "Ah, that looks tasty. I think I'll take it!"

- No waiting. If I'm hungry and go elsewhere I have to wait to be seated, menus provided, drinks ordered, food ordered, food prepared, in some cases I've passed out by that point. This place? I walk in, hang coat, grab seat, take plate, and enjoy! Max 2 minutes from Hmmm to Yumm!

The other Canada watches the Olympics

Thanks to Julie for the graphic! I LOVE it!

But today I reference it because the Canadian's here were glued to the TV for much of the Olympics. I hope the rest of my family up north had better coverage than we did. But I won't go in that direction.

We're all very excited for Vancouver in 4 years. We hope to be there for at least some of it. But first...some thoughts from this one.

- Women accounted for some 75% of Canada's medals, they had 11 4th places finishes (this either bodes well for 2010 or is a let down for some) and they won medals in 10 disciplines, more than any other country. As my T-shirt says "Canadian Girls Kick Ass"!

- Canada got 24 medals to US's 25. Not too shabby for having 1/9th the population! I know the Olympic committee set a goal of 25 but no one expected the hockey team not to medal. Don't even talk to me about it. It's all just too painful. Down with the NHL.

- My mother's claim to Canada's success was the fact that nearly 30 per cent of the Canadian athletes in Turin were from Alberta - It must be part of the legacy of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. (BTW Alberta's population makes up less than 10 per cent of the country's.)

So on to Vancouver. I hope Canada proves itself able to do even better in front of a home audience. Although I did eventually warm up to the toques by the end I still feel it is imperative that they dump HBC and go back to Roots for their outfits. 2002 was just so stylish!

Ok I take it back

It IS all about me.

Please go here for a moment. If you send me your link I'll recipricate.
I'm curious and want to see how it turns out.

Thanks.

Word...

I got an email game from a friend today with a simple assignment.

Describe me in one word.

This could be fun. But I'm not so self centered to think this all needs to be all about me. What one word descriptions would you select for the close ones in your lives, mutual friends, me, my cat, whatever?

I'll think about it an put some responses in comments.

Great Big Monday

If Nicholas Cage's angel character from City of Angels asked me I would suggest he trade in his existance for one night at a Great Big Sea concert! What a rush!!!

3 hours of Newfoundland fun! And on a monday night no less!

They are cute Canadian boys that kick ass a capella, play all manner of coolness (whistles, pipes, concertina, accordion, guitar, bodhran...ah, and Murray brought the stand up bass!!!) and all invited us to sing, dance, and have the best Monday night of our lives. Thanks. Don't mind if I do.

We didn't start out at the front of the stage since they put seats up all the way this time but we made it to Sean's feet for the second set. I think I've been there for the last four shows. And to think, I used to be Stage Murray for the Moxy Fruvous shows. I hope he knows I still love him...

They had been in an accident on Thursday but were in perfect form for the show. I guess they were just glad to be alive. There was no opening act...they played two full sets! If you haven't been introduced go here and check it out! Where else can you hear new pop songs, many a sea shanty, 500 year-old folk songs, and a great 80s medley in one show?

Oh, and a big shout out to Jennifer from Nelson. It was cool to meet you!

The Ex-files (or What IS in a name?)

An interesting question I've pondered before has come up in my life, yet again. Would you date someone with the same name as a major (or minor for that matter) ex?

We all know how I feel about Davids and that I still seem to attract them. Now, it seems my karma has come back to bite me. For all the Daves I've ignored or passed on it is now my turn. I've only known a handful of girls with my name and same spelling...so I was surprised by this turn of events.

So, while I wait to see how this plays out, give me your opinion...Would you date someone who's name came with connotations of biblical proportion?
