Free is a very good price

Thanks to Neel and his love for sneak previews I found myself with passes to see Miss Potter this evening. For all those times I've walked out of a movie theater wanting not only my money but my two hours back this was wonderfully refreshing.

From the producers:
Beatrix Potter has delighted generations of children with her books. But she kept her own private life locked carefully away. Oscar-winning star Renee Zellweger is now bringing her secret story to the screen in "Miss Potter," the first film directed by Chris Noonan since his charming 1995 movie, Babe. It is set in the high summer days of late Victorian and Edwardian England, during which Beatrix develops her natural skills as artist and story-teller. When she finally publishes her debut book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, she becomes a writing celebrity. It also leads to courtship and her first love with publisher Norman Warne, played by Ewan McGregor. Their relationship and his marriage proposal in July, 1905, was to change Beatrix's life for ever.

I can see why it would have a limited audience though. It had the romance and charm of Emma, the breathtaking landscapes and period costumes of Anne of Green Gables and some ahead-of-her-time feminist thinking that makes it a lovely film for today's unmarried women of a certain age. Ewan McGregor didn't hurt either.

Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Especially since no one in my theatre left as soon as the credits started rolling since we were happy to watch the slide show of her illustrations.

Just how bitchy is it?

So, in a dating scenario, I was asked to describe myself in 5 words. I figured Emily Post would not have liked what I wanted to say so I held back but venting is what the blogosphere is for, no?

Thank you. I feel better now.

Guess it is my turn

I told Julie I would do this with her so here we go:

Day One: Ten Favorite Things in Your Home

1. Claudio. Does he count? He certainly makes the place home. I love coming home and have him greet me at the door by rolling over for me to pet his fuzzy tummy.

2. Bookshelves. IKEA of course. 'Billy' if you care (in silver). I've always wanted a library and this is as close as I get at the moment. But I saw the layout of this condo and knew I could go get the bookshelves I've been eyeing.

3. Mirror. Also IKEA. A nice wavy shape that is perfect feng shui for my entryway.

4. Surround Sound DVD. Still one of my favorite toys. Maybe soon I'll get the big TV to go with it.

5. My computer. You probably can't tell because I don't blog enough but I do so love my computer. And I love that my pictures flick by on the Google Screensaver when I'm not using it.

6. Comfy reading chair in my bedroom. True, I usually opt for my bed but I do so love my chair by the fireplace. The cat digs it too.

7. Flat top stove. I don't use the stove much but I do make messes when I do. So I love that I haven't had to scrape under a burner in years.

8. Bell. It hangs above the stairs in my entry way. I like to ding it on my way downstairs in the morning. I'm always surprised that my guests rarely notice it much less use it.

9. Central Air...keeps things chilly in the summer and snuggly warm in the winter. I love curling up with a blanket over the heater like I did when I was a kid and making a "warmth tent".

10. Floorspace. I love that I have enough room to entertain and so many friends to fill it!!

More Snow Pictures

So, as you might have noticed, I did not make it in to work today. Instead I caught up on some much needed sleep, confirmed that daytime television sucks, and made a resolution to keep more food in my pantry. But it was pretty...

Claudio's First Snow!

I'm supposed to go to work in this????

No tickets = death

I have decided that my way of dealing with my own mortality is to buy tickets. Not lottery but event tickets. Theatre, ballet, live music, baseball, ice skating, hockey, whirling dervishes, you name it (although I have been able to avoid WWF and Monster Truck Jams thus far). You can't die when there's so much to do!!! Ticket stubs decorated my bedroom door as a teen, were stuck in my view binders in college and now decorate my cube.

As much as I enjoy the event itself (what U2 concert?) I love the antici-

- pation.

This weekend tickets go on sale for such varied acts as:
Tenacious D, The Shins, Carbon Leaf, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Maya Angelou, and Paula Poundstone.

So, c'mon. Who's with me?

Ten Four Ex-Buddy

I read some troubling news today. There is a quarrel on my laminated list.

It seems that John Cusack and Jeremy Piven are on the outs. Now I'm sure the guys are much classier than to pull any Paris/Nicole style drama but I'm not sure how I feel about it all. I should not have to take sides! I mean, I could replace one... but how? Cusack has been on the list the longest. The Piv has my closest proximity record (he was also at the Honolulu U2 concert!!!). C'mon boys, if you won't kiss and make up would you at least kiss ME?

Feline Jealous?

My cat was sitting on my lap whilst I was catching up on reading blogs (no, not catching up on MY blog, that would make too much sense). He seemed to have something to say when I got to Andy's site...it was "Why haven't you posted pictures of ME?"

So in the interest of not waking up to a strategically placed hairball, I'm posting a recent pic of the "most exquisite Claudio".
